Heo Hoon tries to win his first championship with his strong teammates

 


KT won 75-65 in Game 5 of the 2023-2024 semifinal playoff (PO) against LG held at Changwon Gymnasium on Sunday. KT has won three games and two losses overall, advancing to the championship game for the first time in 17 years since the 2006-2007 season. It is aiming at its first championship since its foundation.


In addition, Hur also advanced to the championship for the first time as an individual. Since joining KT in 2017 with the first overall pick in the rookie draft, Hur has never been linked to a PO. During the 2017-2018 season when he made his debut, KT ranked at the bottom. In the 2018-2019 season, he won his first PO as sixth, but lost to LG for the first time with two wins and three losses. In the 2019-2020 season, he ended prematurely due to the novel coronavirus infection disease (COVID-19), and ended his disappointment. Nevertheless, he soothed by receiving his first MVP award in a regular league.


In the 2020-2021 season, the Korean pro baseball team ranked sixth once again in the PO league, but lost three games to KGC (currently Jeonggwanjang). Back then, KGC continued its strides by banking on Jarrod Salinger. Back then, Hur displayed his fighting spirit even when dealing with a thigh injury. In the 2021-2022 season, he took the opportunity by directly advancing to the PO league by ranking second in the regular season. However, he was blocked by KGC again this time. KT was particularly weak in PO games by allowing three games even after winning the first game.


Since joining the military, Hur was discharged from the military service in November last year. Due to major injuries including facial fracture and calf muscle rupture, Hur has spent more time away. However, KT manager Song Young-jin successfully filled Hur's absence and led his team to the PO.


In the PO, there continued to be difficult times. In the semifinal PO against Hyundai Mobis, he showed disappointment until the second game but showed strong performance from the third game. During the semifinal PO against LG, he suffered an ankle injury and was not in his right condition. He only scored 9.2 points on average in five semifinal PO matches.


Now, however, he has strong teammates. Until now, KT has been highly dependent on Hur Hoon. Since childhood, he has played with a lot of burdens. If Hur Hoon does well, he often wins, but if he does not, he loses.


However, foreign player Paris Bath, who ranks first in scoring in the regular season, is with him this season. "Captain" Moon Sung-gon and rookie Han Hee-won will also contribute in defense.
