Postekoglu, steadfast despite criticism

Manager Anji Postecoglou has maintained a firm attitude despite criticism of the schedule.

Amid a flurry of accusations that the players' physical strength is unnecessarily consumed for the club's benefit, Postecoglou defended his away friendly against Newcastle United in Australia after the end of the season.

The British Telegraph reported, "Postecoglou defended Tottenham Hotspur's unique expedition to Australia despite welfare problems for his players. Tottenham will fly to Melbourne after the Premier League (PL) season and play a friendly match with Newcastle."

The media said, "Tottenham's decision to plan a friendly match on the other side of the world drew criticism, but Postecoglou emphasized that the match to be played in Melbourne is a unique opportunity," pointing out that Postecoglou defended the friendly match in Melbourne despite criticism.

According to the Telegraph, Postecoglou said, "We will leave for Australia immediately after the last game, and we will take all the healthy players with us. I think this friendly is a unique opportunity because we don't play many games this season, and we are having a chaotic season."

"I don't think these friendly matches will be held regularly unless I think the benefits are greater than the cost of investing. I thought this opportunity was a good opportunity for us to go to the other side of the world and keep the club growing. That's why I made this decision," he said, explaining why he planned this friendly match.

There are many criticisms about Tottenham's friendly match schedule. Critics say that the players' physical strength will be reduced as a result of the friendly matches being played immediately after the end of the season. In addition, Tottenham cannot avoid this criticism because the reason for the friendly matches itself is not to check the players' performance but to earn money from ticket prices or to promote the club abroad.

One of the reasons for criticism is that the Euro will be held immediately. Tottenham and Newcastle have a number of players who are likely to participate in Euro 2024 as representatives of the English national team, including James Maddison, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier. For the English national team, it is burdensome for players to play one more game in faraway countries.

England head coach Gareth Southgate also mentioned this.

"There will be more and more friendlies at the end of the season. Why? Because of FFF, clubs have to earn more on their own," Southgate said. "The general way clubs generate more revenue is to play more matches. Is that good news for us in terms of preparing for (Euro 2024)? No," he said, expressing regret about the schedule.

On the contrary, however, Postecoglou refuted the claim, saying, "Southgate is not considering the club manager's position." Just as the national team is concerned about the club's schedule, it means that the club manager is concerned about the players whenever a national team match is held throughout the season.

Postecoglou said, "I think Southgate will one day be in charge of the club, and he will have a different perspective from the past. When I was a national team coach, I would sweat when players played on weekends. On the contrary, there are quite a few coaches who get nervous when playing for the national team. This is the world we live in."  토토사이트 순위

"We judged that there was a benefit from this friendly game as a result when we weighed everything," he added.
